Add Flair To Your Home With Exterior Venetian Blinds

March 11th, 2010 | by How To |

Until recently most exterior venetian blinds were found primarily on storefronts, office buildings, and doors in business districts. They were chosen for the ability to provide security to the business and were not chosen for decorative appeal. Today, there is much more flexibility when choosing blinds and they are growing in popularity.

The blinds are manufactured using many different materials. A person may choose external blinds made from wood, metal, fabricated materials, or aluminum. Depending on the location of the blinds and their primary purpose, they may be designed to be decorative additions or added security for a business.

Exterior venetian blinds are most commonly used on showroom windows and to protect the entrances of businesses. The blinds are usually made of a heavy-duty metal or reinforced aluminum. Each slat is tethered with a heavy-duty membrane that allows the blind to be rolled in a horizontal or vertical position.

Some of the blinds used by businesses have motors built into the header that allow an individual to use a remote control to raise and lower the blind. Other blinds have cords that can be used to manually raise and lower the blind. In some cases the blinds are made to be moved using vertical tension. These blinds often provide an extra level of security and are very difficult to move without assistance.

A lighter weight aluminum slat is used in the making of vertical doorway blinds. These blinds are often designed with an open weave that has a locking mechanism on one side. They are securely bolted to a building and can have an automatic lock or a bolt lock that is attached by the user. When the vertical doorway blinds are used on large doorways or openings, they often have a remote controlled opening mechanism.

Blinds that are used primarily in business districts are powder coated or wet painted. These blinds are usually grey and have a paint resistant coating. The coating prevents graffiti from being sprayed on the blind. In some cases a business will have a special design coating manufactured on the blind that creates a logo or business name when the blinds are closed.

Exterior venetian blinds are gaining popularity with homeowners. They provide an extra level of insulation on large windows. In addition, they can be designed and manufactured to fit any size window. This is especially important on windows that are irregular and enhance the architecture of a home.

When the blinds are being used as a decorative addition on a home or business, they are often dipped in a color coating. Aluminum blinds are often tinted during the molting process to create an even color tone in the metal. These blinds are often made to replicate bronze or other metals that create a dramatic effect when used on a business or home.

An individual who is selecting exterior sun blinds will want to find the exterior wood blinds that enhances their windows or doors. Technological advances have created a line of blinds that are decorative and appealing while providing the function and versatility required for security purposes.
